writing a testimony

“How to write your testimony” is a guide to help you tell your life story. God’s word tells us,

“It is a proof of your faith.  Many people will praise God because you obey the Good News of Christ—the gospel you say you believe – and because you freely share with them and with all others.” (2 Cor 9:13 NCV)

Testimony Guidelines:

a.  Before you start writing, pray and ask God for help and the words to share.

c.  Be sure to include 1 or 2 of your favorite scriptures.

d.  Be honest.

f.  Don’t use religious clichés.

Four Parts of Your Story

Relax and let’s get started.

1st  The Old Me (before I became a Christian)

a.  Basic information about growing up.

b.  What was my life before I met Christ?

c.  What are some of the circumstances others could relate to?

d.  What was my attitude like toward God and others?

d.  What was my bottom?

2nd My Experiences and Changes over time

a.  How I became a Christian

b.  How has my growing relationship with Jesus Christ influenced my life?

c.  Did a single event in my life touch my heart in a special way?

3rd The New Me

a.  What changes God has made in my relationships with others?

b.  What areas of my old life are gone, and how have they changed?

c.  How has my walk with God changed?

d.  What is my life like now?

4th Outreach

  1. What encouragement can I give?

Conclusion

Once your testimony is written, consider ways to share your story with others. Whenever a person is vulnerable and transparent enough to reveal God’s hand over their life, listeners benefit by recognizing they are not alone. To share that gift is the biggest blessing given and received.
